Timothy Cheung, Partner & Chief Investment Officer
Tim has fifteen years of work experience in financial services across private equity, infrastructure, investment research and funds management. Previous employment has been with Commonwealth Securities, Colonial First State, Morphic Asset Management as Head of Research and most recently Perpetual Investments where he was a Senior Analyst responsible for Asian investments.
Tim is a native of Hong Kong and a Cantonese speaker. He was tertiary educated at UNSW (Commerce and Law) and the Wharton Business School (MBA Honours).
Kim Ivey, Partner & Executive Chairman
Kim has three decades of experience across many facets of the financial services industry – private banking, investment banking, asset consulting, risk management (CRO), and hedge funds. Previous employment has been with Merrill Lynch International, Citibank, Towers Perrin and Commonwealth Financial Services. As the CIO/CEO founder of Vertex Capital Management in 1998, he pioneered the Australian absolute return investment industry. A founding member (2001) of the Australian Chapter of The Alternative Investment Management Association, its past Chairman (2002-2010) and Director of the global AIMA (UK) board, Kim has been at the forefront of the alternative investment industry for twenty years. After selling VCM in 2007, Kim has been making proprietary investments through his family office, advising regulators, asset managers and family offices on investment issues and supporting various charities.
India born, Australia and Singapore raised, Kim pursued tertiary education at The University of Texas (Austin) (B.BA) & San Diego State University (MBA).
Chung Ip, Partner & Head of Research
Chung has over fifteen years of investment experience in public equity, private equity and distressed debt investing. Chung commenced his buy-side career with Accel-KKR, a technology focused private equity fund, where he worked on growth equity investments and buyouts in the software, internet and technology services sectors. Chung later joined Ascend Capital as a senior research analyst in their global long/short equity fund. Most recently Chung has been with Outrider Management as a senior investment professional undertaking distressed debt and special situation investing in emerging markets, including Asia. Chung began his finance career at JP Morgan in its technology investment banking and debt capital markets groups.
Canadian born and raised, Chung is a Cantonese speaker and was tertiary educated at Yale University (B.A.) and the Wharton Business School (MBA Honours).
David Gray, Chief Operating Officer
David has over twenty-five years of work experience in the financial services industry in Australia and Asia. He spent seventeen years with UBS managing the Prime Brokerage & Listed Derivative business in Sydney before relocating to Hong Kong in 2006 where he headed the same divisions on an Asia-Pacific regional basis. Additional work experience has been gained with RBS (Hong Kong) where he expanded their prime brokerage coverage to sovereign wealth funds and institutions in the Asian region. David also helped State Street build their listed derivatives business in Hong Kong.
Australian born and raised, with extensive working experience in Asia, David is a qualified Chartered Accountant and was tertiary educated at the University of Sydney (BEco.)
Brian McGlynn, Independent Director & Investment Committee (Chair)
Brian has over three decades of experience in the financial services industry. Previous employment has been with the Commonwealth Bank as its Chief Engineer responsible for technical due diligence of all of the bank’s investment in infrastructure projects. Brian then moved to Colonial First State Global Management as an Investment Manager for a listed investment company focusing on alternative investments in private equity and infrastructure assets. Brian sits on a number of high profile boards with LSL Partners being the only one in the financial services sector.
Australian born and raised, tertiary educated at UNSW (B.Eng. Sc. & M.Eng. Sc.) and Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MBA).
Rod Maddock, Independent Director
Rod has over thirty years of experience in financial services and academia. Rod is currently a Professor of Finance at Monash University and a researcher at the Australian Centre of Financial Studies. Before returning to academia in 2012, Maddock spent six years as Executive General Manager for Strategy at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Previously, at the Commonwealth Bank he had been Head of Global Markets Research which included responsibility for equities, debt, currencies, commodities, and economics research. Rod was formerly the Chief Economist for the Business Council of Australia and Head of Economic Policy in the Victorian government’s Cabinet Office. Currently, in addition to his academic work, Rod works on a number of consulting projects in Asia and Latin America.
Rod is Australian born and raised, and was tertiary educated at the University of Queensland (B. Eco) and Duke University (M.A. and PhD.).
Tristan Edwards, Independent Director
Tristan has two decades of market trading, asset management and financial services experience. Previous employment has been with Goldman Sachs Asset Management (Melbourne), Brevan Howard (London) and Trafalgar Capital (Hong Kong). He launched his own firm, Mosaic Asset Management (Singapore) in 2012. Mosaic was a market neutral Asian equity manager and was one of the highest profile Asian launches of its vintage. Tristan commenced his career with the Commonwealth Department of Finance (1997) working on the national budget. Tristan is currently the CEO of Life Biosciences, an innovative anti-ageing biotech firm based in Boston Mass.
Born and raised in Australia, with extensive Asia and European working experience, Tristan was tertiary educated at the University of Tasmania (B. Com.). He holds CFA, CPA and CMT accreditations.
